BE CREATIVE
By George Card
I have presented some of the ideas that I have learned and used in many years in the ministry and also in my Bible studies. But you can be creative and come up with many more ways to study by yourself or in a group setting. You can make it a group project.
Writing: Many people have written booklets and books, How about writing a fictional story about a little known character in the Bible? Supposed you had to write a letter to King David, what would you tell him? How about writing a bible mystery? How about poetry, come on now, study a section of the Bible and try to write a poem about it.
Singing: How about writing a song about a little known event or person in the Bible. Will it be a happy song or one with sadness? Maybe you can create it in a country style or how about in a soul style? Could write your own Psalm or write an anthem for a tribe?
Acting: How about creating a musical video or tape recording? Maybe create skits or biblical plays? How about putting stories in other time periods? How about a dramatic reading of a Bible book? Maybe create an expressive dance about a biblical event? How about a bible story in mime?
Sewing: How about creating a costume like a philistine warrior? Supposed you live in that time with the Israelites and they asked you to create a flag? How about crocheting hats for shepherds?
Or creating biblical scenes in table covers?
Cooking: How about cooking dishes typical of Bible times. Perhaps bake something mentioned in the Bible, like that Ezekiel bread recipe. How would you cook locusts?
Artistic: Some have painted biblical scenes; have created sculptures, diagrams, maps, charts, pottery and many more artistic items with biblical themes. How about doing your own?
Crafts: Many crafts are mentioned in the Bible, have you tried learning about some of them? How about creating pottery or some metal items? Maybe learn some carpentry?
Modern: How about creating a Bible board game? A PowerPoint presentation, an excel spreadsheet. Perhaps you can create a list, a web site, maybe a video game?
Use what others have already used in their bible studies. If others have done it, you can try your hand at creating a variation of one thing or another; perhaps you will create some type of masterpiece.
And why confine yourself to just the Israelites, or the good characters, how about just for fun switching sides and use their enemies as inspiration. Write a novel about Goliath. Maybe write a tragedy where Essau believes he is the hero.
Creativity is endless, it just needs to be unleashed and pretty soon you will be doing things that I never even imagined. Look at the Bible section you are reading and see what you can do with it.
I have not done everything that I have mentioned in here, because I either lack the artistic ability or have no interest in certain areas. But I have tried to be creative in my Bible studies and have experimented with different styles of Bible studies. Some successful, some total disasters, but it was fun and I learned something from even my disasters.
