Many times Christians see cultists going up and down in feverish activity and wonder why cultists believe those weird doctrines.
But dear brethren we do not need to wonder or be exasperated by their gullibility. These cultists are what they are because we neglected to reach them with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Many people are like fertile soil, any seed that gets planted in their heart grows. When these people had faith and were ready to accept the gospel, no one was there to plant it; so the devil sent one of his deluded cultists.
If only Christians were half as zealous of spreading the gospel, as the cultists are in spreading their lies, there would be no cultists. The abundance of cults in our midst is proof that Christians have been negligent in spreading the gospel.
Of course we can still reach these cultists, but it is much harder to do. Once deception takes root in a soul, it is very hard to pull out those weeds of deception.
To make matters worse, cultists are having success not only among non-Christians, but also among the Christian community. Some cultists even boast that they are making more converts from Christians, than Christians are making from them.
Could their success be attributed to the fact that many Christians have a shallow understanding of what the gospel is?
When I was a young Christian, I almost fell into the Mormon delusion, but I had a good pastor who helped me to see that the gospel of Mormonism wasn't the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I thank God that I escaped from being ensnared by that cult, but I wonder how many others have been trapped.
The fault rests squarely on the shoulders of ministers who have never bothered to preach clearly the gospel. The strongest and best way for any Christian to avoid becoming deceived by a cult is to have a clear understanding of what the gospel is.
(The Gospel is that we are sinners, and that there is nothing we can do to earn salvation. Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins, and by believing in him and obeying his word, we can have eternal life.)
Dear Christian brethren, if we do not spread the gospel, the cultists will spread theirs. There are thousands of fertile souls waiting for a seed to fall in their heart. Will you plant it or will you let Satan beat you to it? We have to reach them or the devil will.
