In the greatly populated cities amidst a multitude of people, some are becoming hermits.  How is this possible? It is done through modern technology.  The phone, the television, the radio, the Internet and computers are contributing to this phenomenon.

Another factor that has contributed to this unusual situation is rampant crime. There is a feeling that crime is out of control, and in order to escape it many people have become virtual prisoners in their own home. Nowadays houses have locks, alarms and even secret panic rooms.

Technology has become so sophisticated that one can almost live a life within the confines of one's own home. There are now companies that have computerized systems, where a worker doesn't even need to show up at a job site; it is all done through a modem uplink.

One can also shop by phone, all one needs is a credit card. Some grocery stores are experimenting with home delivery.  Even paying bills and other things can be done thru the Internet With the new coming systems of virtual reality there will not even be a need to go outside for Entertainment or Exercise.  Why would you need to go to Disneyland when you could bring Disneyland home? Why travel to Paris when you could bring Paris home? Why go to the dangerous park when you can exercise at home.

And to top it all of even religion can be had at home, via those T.V. preachers and internet videos. Yes you can learn the Bible and hear the preacher, but this is not sufficient, for the Bible tells us that it is good for brethren to come together in unity, Christian fellowship was and is an important part of church life and will continue to be so, no matter how depersonalized society becomes.

Sadly to say it is getting to the point that in a few years, total isolation might become possible.  This indeed bodes ill for us, for none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. (Romans 14:7)

In ancient times monks created monasteries where away from society they lived sequestered lives, but I hardly doubt they had much impact upon the world around them by being separated from the world. A small closed society only reinforces itself but it does nothing for the outside world. We Christians are to be the light and salt of the world, not to withdraw from the world and go hide in the desert.

Another thing that is happening is that Christians tend to associate only with other Christians. There is nothing wrong with such fellowship and as a matter of fact it is a good thing, but that cannot be our only fellowship. We need to go out there and meet sinners, we need to get outside of our religious circles and get to know those in the outside. Christians need to stop excluding sinners from their lives.

Forced or chosen seclusion will eventually drive a person to the borders of insanity.  And how can a hermit love his neighbor as himself if he doesn't have one? God has clearly said it is not good that the man should be alone. (Genesis 2:18)  Woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. (Ecclesiastes 4:10)

Prayer Requests

Due to the amount of prayers requested, it is not possible for us to pray individually for every prayer request, and it would be dishonest to imply that we do. So instead we will add your prayer request to our list, which we will take before The Lord God Almighty.

Yes, I wish for you to include me in your prayer list
