THE FORGOTTEN WICKED

There are some people who go back on the Lord, they came to the place of repentance and even got baptized and for a time were a part of the church, but something went wrong in their soul and turned back from following the Lord. It would have been better for them never to have known the way of truth than after walking in it, they turned back. And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity. (Ecclesiastes 8:10)

Solomon indeed calls them wicked for so they are. These people are far more wicked than the atheists or any sinner, for the atheists or sinners have not ever felt the presence of the Lord, so it is obvious that they have no understanding of the Lord. I would even go so far as to suggest that the atheists are just foolish in saying there is no God, but the ones who turned back do not have that excuse.  For if after they have tasted of the heavenly gift, how could they ever reject the manna from heaven?

How sad indeed is seeing people who at one time walked with the Lord leave and go back. Peter said that it was a disgusting thing to go back on the Lord; that it was like the dog that has turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. (2 Peter 2:22) Some may recoil in disgust and shock at the words of Peter, but he could not have painted a more accurate picture of those who have returned back to their former gross disgusting life before they were saved. They are not longer drinking from the fountains of pure water but are now drinking the putrid waters from the sewer of sin.

When I think of the martyrs of the Lord how they held their life in so little esteem that they with joy went to their deaths yet some when faced with such persecution in fear of their lives they caved in and sacrificed unto the Roman Emperor. I could even understand such people who in fear of the torture and death caved in, but how could it be possible to understand those in our modern times when no such persecution is going on, simple leaving the road that leads to eternal life.

These deserters have the same spirit of Judas, for as he was chosen to be a disciple of the Lord, he instead chose to be a disciple of Satan. These traitors betray the Lord and go back to their former life often for far less than 30 pieces of silver. They give up the most valuable thing in the whole universe for nothing.

How could they do that? Oh there are all kinds of excuses, because something bad happened, some Christian said or did something hurtful or they read a book by an atheist or whatever. They can always come up with some kind of excuse. But none of those excuses are actually real for others have encountered the same situation or even worse and have not left the way of truth.

Those who blame their departure on some bad event that happened to them should read some of the horrible things that Christians in other countries have endured for Christ and yet they hold steadfast unto the Lord despite their suffering. I am sure that other Christians have gone thru far more horrible things than what the deserters claim is their excuse for leaving the Lord.

And there are those who having read a book or heard some arguments by some atheists let their mind accept the seed of doubt; they water and fertilize that seed until it produces the fruit of apostasy. They preferred to believe the words of men than the word of God. How sad indeed that appealing to some human wisdom they rejected the wisdom of God, which is Christ.

The only truth is that they were wicked and they are without excuse. None of their excuses will be valid in the day of judgment. How terrible and horrible is that have exchanged the sweet bread of life for the vile poison of death.
