First let us see the definition of a fanatic. The dictionary describes it as: A person filled with excessive enthusiasm or zeal for something.
The first commandment is "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. (Mark 12:30) Now let me ask you this if I have given all my heart, soul, mind, and strength to the Lord, is there anything left for other things?
Ecclesiastes 9:10 says "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might for there is no work...in the grave wither thou goest". It is clearly impossible to attempt to become a better Christian after death. There is only one chance to do it right. Wouldn't you feel silly standing before God attempting to explain to him your lack of zeal. That you didn't gave it your all, because you didn't want to be called a fanatic, when Jesus was called Beelzebub.
Whenever somebody catches the fire of zeal, and follows hard after God, then immediately the lukewarm members in the church get convicted. They begin to avoid that saint. They will tell him that there is no need to be so heavenly minded. That he will suffer from burn out. My brethren let me tell you, there is an urgent need for such firebrands. Let us get closer to them. Do not worry about them suffering from burn out, because the heavenly fire can burn a bush without consuming it.
In the world it is O.K. to be a sports fanatic, a music fanatic, or a fitness fanatic. In pursuit of such things people spend their last dime and hours and hours of their life learning all they can about the object of their fanaticism. In the stadiums or in the concerts they act like certified maniacs rooting for their sport team or their idol.
But let a saint of God become a fanatic for God and then it is wrong. It is some kind of psychosis harmful to the mind. It is a dangerous fanaticism that no one in their right mind should have. What a bunch of baloney that is. Pure and total fanatical devotion to God is dangerous to Satan; that is why he worries when he sees a child of God become dedicated to God. The devil laughs at the lukewarm Christians who are even afraid to say anything for Jesus, lest they be thought as fanatics.
I wish there was a stadium full of fanatics for Jesus, but sometimes all it takes is one fanatic for Jesus to change the world. Paul was fanatical about Jesus, he did not half-step for him and Paul changed the world. He was sold out to preaching the gospel, he did not care about anything else. Fanatical? Yes but he did not care for what others thought of him.
Some people have asked me "don't you know anything else besides the Bible?" Well yes, I have traveled throughout the world, I have read many books and been to many secular schools, However nothing is as interesting as the word of God. Many times I have been called a fanatic along with some other names. However I no longer care for I am not seeking to please men, But God.
Yes I am a fanatic for God and I make no apologies for it. But I still want to be even more fanatical for Jesus, I want to burn with the heavenly fire, Oh God send me more fire, I want more.
