IS THERE NOT A CAUSE?

By George Card

I have a sense of humor, but it doesn't mean that I am always laughing. To everything there is a season and a time, and right now is a time to hate. (Ecclesiastics 3:1,8) Some will say that a Christian is not supposed to hate or get angry, but is there not a cause? (I Samuel 17:29)  How can I not get angry when the wicked are running rampant throughout the land.  For they speak against him and take his name in vain.  Do not I hate them, that hate him? and Am I not grieved with those that rise up against him? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. (Psalm 139:20-22)

Judgment is coming upon this nation and upon this world for we have not executed judgment and righteousness nor delivered the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: We do wrong (Plenty of it), we do violence to the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widows; we have shed much innocent blood in this place. (Jeremiah 22:3)

And in spite of all this many Christians do not get stirred up. They assume that it is wrong to get upset, how wrong can they be!  Was not God stirred up in anger with the Israelites for their many sins? And was not Jesus provoked to anger by the Pharisees?  When David heard that Goliath insulted God, he got offended, and killed that giant. Today God is frequently insulted in TV and the movies, yet hardly a peep comes out from the Christian community.

Jesus has been turned into a limp wristed sissy, who would not hurt a fly. What a mockery they have made of Jesus and of God. They have spat on the face of almighty God and turned him into a feeble senile old guy. They have openly rebelled against him and defied him with many impudent blasphemous words and vile actions.

Sinners practice every kind of vile filthy perversion and not only that, but go on TV or write books proclaiming and bragging about their filthiness for all the world to see and approve. And while all this is going on half the church is sound asleep and the other half actually condoning or overlooking such sins.

How can I not be sputtering with maddening rage, when God is mocked and offended and all I hear from the church is a thundering silence? Where is the fire of Elijah? Where is a Jehu riding furiously in his chariot? Where is zealous Phineas with his spear?

Today there are plenty of giants in the land, But oh God where are the Davids? Where are the seven thousand who have not bowed their knee to Baal? Is there not a man of God who will rise up and shout to the four winds the word of the Lord? Wake up Christian brethren, and rise to smite those Philistines. Maybe we need to take an ax to those comfortable pews.

I not just angry, in fact I am boiling with indignation. How long will this go on? Rise up God and empty your bowl of wrath upon this evil world, make the inhabitants drink from the bowl of your wrath to the last drop. As they have rejoiced in their evil and filled the earth with wickedness so let them howl and weep and gnash their teeth and fill their bellies with the poison of wasps. I don't know if I should be more mad at this sinful world or at the lack of action by a sleeping church.
